At Dispomed, we believe that innovation in veterinary equipment must go hand in hand with environmental responsibility. As veterinary clinics increasingly seek to reduce their ecological footprint without compromising the quality of care, we are committed to offering sustainable solutions that support this transition.
From energy-efficient medical equipment to responsible manufacturing initiatives, we are actively working to develop alternatives and implement ideas that align veterinary excellence with environmental stewardship.
The Growing Concern: Veterinary Practices and the Environment
Beyond pharmaceuticals, medical waste—such as single-use plastics, expired medications, and anesthetic gases—poses significant environmental challenges. At Dispomed, we keep the planet in mind with every decision we make, whether it’s through packaging strategies, the selection of materials used in our products, or the renewal of our company vehicle fleet. Our goal is clear: to adopt more sustainable and environmentally responsible practices, while maintaining the excellence and quality of our products and services.
Sustainable Solutions from Dispomed
To address these challenges, Dispomed is innovating with greener solutions, ensuring that patient care remains a priority while reducing environmental harm.
- Reducing Plastic Packaging:
In our packaging process, we have replaced plastic with cardboard, which is 100% recyclable. - Sustainable Waste Management:
We recycle metal waste from our machine shop. Every scrap material is sent to be reused for other metal projects. - Recycled Absorbers:
100% of our absorbers are made from recycled HMW plastic. - Energy-Efficient Equipment:
The insPurr ventilator reduces gas consumption by precisely controlling the amount of fresh gas delivered to the patient. Since anesthetic gas is highly polluting, reducing waste through precise delivery is a major environmental win.Beyond reducing anesthetic gas waste, Dispomed is also placing greater focus on Sevoflurane, a more environmentally friendly anesthetic gas. Compared to Isoflurane, which has a global warming potential (GWP) of 510, Sevoflurane has a significantly lower GWP of only 55, meaning it produces ten times fewer greenhouse gases.
Sustainable Manufacturing Practices
In our production process, we have replaced traditional welding with laser welding, which:
- Does not generate harmful fumes or residues.
- Uses less energy while maintaining the same efficiency.
In-House Sustainability Initiatives
Paper-Free Accounting
We have eliminated 99.9% of our paper checks by switching to electronic transfers, supporting the paper-free initiative.
Energy Conservation
We have installed motion-sensor light switches to reduce electricity consumption.
Eco-Friendly Employee Benefits
We now provide our employees with sustainable sanitary products.
Community Garden
Dispomed has established a community garden to promote sustainability and well-being since 3 years now.
Hybrid Vehicle Fleet
We have recently begun ordering hybrid company vehicles to further reduce our environmental impact.
The Role of Technology in Sustainable Veterinary Care
Technological advancements are playing a pivotal role in reducing the ecological impact of veterinary care. Dispomed, for example, is at the forefront of sustainable veterinary equipment, offering:
Veterinary ventilators that minimize anesthetic gas waste and optimize oxygen delivery.
Energy-efficient anesthesia machines that support low-flow techniques, reducing resource consumption.
Durable, long-lasting medical equipment that reduces the frequency of replacements, cutting down on production-related emissions.
Embracing a Greener Future in Veterinary Medicine
The veterinary industry is making great strides toward sustainability, balancing high-quality patient care with environmentally responsible practices. From eco-conscious flea treatments to energy-efficient medical equipment like Dispomed’s ventilators, every small change contributes to a larger impact.
As veterinary professionals, making informed choices about the products and practices used in daily operations can lead to a more sustainable future. By prioritizing green solutions, we not only protect our patients but also safeguard the planet for future generations.
While these initiatives represent significant steps toward sustainability, there is always more to be done. This is only a shown of desire to integrate the environnment in our daily and strategic decision – an ongoing journey toward a greener future.
