Short video to explain how and when to replace soda lime on Moduflex™ veterinary anesthesia machines.
Hi, welcome to another Dispomed video. Today we will be looking at how and when to replace the sodasoarb in your anesthesia machine. Soda lime is used to absorb the CO2. There is a colour indicator included in the soda lime that turns the soda lime from white to pink or white to purple as well as other colours depending on the brand that we use. As the CO2 is absorbed, the soda lime changes colour. After a period of time where it is not used, it may revert to its original colour. That is why it is important not just to rely on the colour change, but also on the time limit. The maximum amount of time we should use it for is around 14 hours. Now you can indicate on your canister all of its usage. For instance, here, every 15 minutes we would write a notch to indicate how much we used. When we reach 14 hours, we throw away our soda lime. Before you drain your sodasoarb, you need to take certain precautions. Sodasoarb is a mild skin irritant, so it is important to wear gloves, glasses and a mask.
Loosen the setscrew below the canister, remove the canister, dump it out and tape a damp cloth before refilling. Wipe the upper gasket to remove any excess powder and wipe the bottom gasket on you canister. The excess powder may cause leaks. To fill your CO2 canister, replenish it to approximately one centimeter from the top or up to the line indicated on your fill label.
Reposition the canister in place, tighten the ceiling screw and perform a leak. Check on your machine before reusing it.
