Patient Safety Guidelines
- Use the provided rope gag to suspend the patient’s head by the canines, as commonly done in BOAS corrective surgery
- Limit rope load to 30 kg
- As a general rule, a patient’s head accounts for 10% of total body weight, For example, a 50 kg dog’s head weighs approximately 5 kg, which is well within the device’s safe load range
Airway Management
The BOSS includes an elastic silicone tie that secures the anesthetic breathing circuit to the positioning device, ensuring safe airway access during procedures.
Optional Accessory
A sterilizable intraoral meshed fabric gag is available for patients without canine teeth, providing a reliable alternative to the rubber-coated rope gag. Please ask your sales representative for more information.
Cleaning, disinfection and sterilization:
The rubber-coated rope gags should be soaked in warm water with enzymatic soap to remove organic debris. The rubber-coated section should be disinfected with any alcohol- or hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant immediately prior to the procedure. The silicone tie can be cleaned similarly.
The ropes and silicone tie are also autoclavable using normal settings (30 minutes at 121°C (250°F) in a gravity displacement sterilizer. * Sterilization may reduce the ropes’ lifetime compared to washing and disinfection described above.
The base, bar, screws and Allen key are autoclavable. Autoclave chamber dimensions may prevent sterilization in small units. These components can be cleaned with enzymatic soap to remove organic debris followed by any alcohol- or hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant.
